WD40 is a water displacer, not a very good lubricant, and a bit of a solvent. If you need to spray anything int he cyclinder, it should be a penetrant like PB Blaster or even some oil. I’ve used ATF to free stuck rings. If the engine has sat a long time, spray some oil int here and let it sit for a while.
